Editorial standards

Editorial policy

Health information should be accurate, clear and honest about its limits. This is how we try to meet that standard — and how you can hold us to it.

What we publish

We focus on care navigation — where to go, who to see, how to prepare and how to understand common tests — and on common conditions and everyday health. We do not publish personal medical advice, unproven treatments or content designed to sell a product.

How we source

Guides are built on public guidance from, in order of preference:

  1. National and international health authorities such as the World Health Organization, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US National Institutes of Health (including MedlinePlus), the UK National Health Service and NICE, and national regulators such as the US FDA.
  2. Clinical guidelines and patient information from professional medical societies, such as the American Heart Association or the American Academy of Dermatology.
  3. Peer-reviewed research, preferably systematic reviews and large studies, when guidance does not yet cover a question.

Each guide lists its main sources at the end so you can read the original guidance yourself.

How we write

Use of AI-assisted tools

We may use AI-assisted tools to help research, draft, translate or update content and code. Drafts are written from, and checked against, the public sources listed on each guide before publication. Tools and calculators use published formulas, which are named on each tool page.

Clinical review

We are building a panel of licensed clinicians to review our guides. When a guide has been clinically reviewed, it will show the reviewer's name, credentials and review date. Until then, guides are labelled as written by the dr.clinic editorial team. Licensed clinicians interested in reviewing can apply here.

Updates

Every guide shows the date it was last updated. We review guides at least once a year, and sooner when major guidance changes.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us through the contact page and choose “Correction or feedback”. We aim to review reports within five business days and correct confirmed errors promptly, noting significant corrections on the page.

Independence from advertising and partners

Advertisers, sponsors, partner clinics and supporters cannot buy, edit or approve health content. Sponsored placements are always labelled. Google AdSense selects ads automatically; we do not endorse the products or services advertised.
